As the TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik M80 grew in popularity and demand, so did requests for custom finishes from our Custom Shop. After seeing how impressive the chrome plating looked on the M80, we quickly turned this to a vibrant gold plating. Its frequency response is flat from 150 Hz to 3 k Hz, with a dip at 6 k Hz and a smooth, airy presence peak at 8 k Hz.Utilizing a unique proprietary circuit topology, this re-interpretation of the classic FET mic amplifier produces an exceptional transient response and SPL handling capabilities. They are generally referred to as "Behördenröhren". Still, for several reasons, they were not robust enough for general military mobile and field operation: The Wehrmacht (and its predecessor, the Reichswehr) had a special agency, the Heereswaffenamt: the Army Ordnance Office. Each group had its own numbering / designator scheme (ref. Prior to 1938, the RV12P4000 tube had the designator NF4 (ref. Here, the first letter designates the heater type and voltage (M = 1.9 volt, indirectly heated, N = 12.6 volt, directly heated). The Kriegsmarine (Navy) had very few specific "Spezialröhren". The P2000 is one of the early miniature-pentodes ("Zwerg-Pentoden"), with shape and size (but not the internal construction!Civil and Behördenröhren tubes types were nonetheless deemed to be usable by the military, e.g., based on screening to tighter tolerances. Typically, an additional letter was appended to the tube type, to indicate their suitability for army or airborne radio applications ("Wehrmachtsverwendbarkeit" or "Flugfunktauglichkeit). Its main responsibilities included the research and development, specification, testing, industrialization (procurement, logistics), and acceptance of weaponry, ammunition, and equipment, as well as the assessment of enemy weaponry. The second letter indicates the tube type (F = pentode). Note that this does not mean that army tubes could not be used by the air force, or vice versa. This HF/VHF tube was developed by the HWA in 1934, readied for production and produced by Telefunken starting mid-1937. ) very similar to the slightly older SF1 and SF1A (ref. An estimated total of about 16 million of this universal pentode were manufactured from 1937 to 1956 (ref. During 19, the production volume of Wehrmachtröhren rose to an estimated 16.9 and 17.8 million tubes respectively (ref.Photos of all my RV12P4000 tubes and their markings are on this separate page.
Preamplifier tubes usually have a twist-lock shield that must be removed before the tube can be removed from the chassis.
However, we recommend you purchase the best tubes you can afford and we encourage experimentation with different brands.
We recommend the following brands for the replacement of EF86/6267 tubes: Electro-Harmonix (stock), NOS Mullard, Siemans, Telefunken, Dario Mini-Watt.
Due to its low mass capsule and super thin (yet surprisingly rugged) capsule membrane, the M80 presents a wider range of emotion from a live vocal with an intimacy that has been traditionally reserved for studio quality condenser microphones.
The head and capsule assembly has been designed to reduce proximity effect to which adds low end clarity for vocals, while still providing strength, authority, and an "open, airy" character without adding danger of upper midrange feedback or "honk." The M80 also features a custom wound impedance matching transformer, which is where the magic really takes place.
